I have to admit that today's trivia is really mostly trivia, but it was a great time assembling these questions.
1) What song are these lyrics from and who is the artist? (Hint: mid 80s release)
(5 points each) 10
Don't tell me "I don't wanna be a girl like that"
Do you wanna see a grown man cry?
You don't wanna be a girl like that
Baby this could be the first time (this could be the first time)
2) This musician recently won the 2007 Film & TV Music Award for Best Score for a Television Comedy Program for “The Office.” But you would probably know him from his work with the bands Spirit and Jo Jo Gunne or a couple of solo hits in the late 70s, early 80s. Who is he?
(10 points) 20
3) Who wrote “Take It Easy?”
(5 points each) 30
4) Who are Doug Fieger (lead vocals, guitar), Berton Averre (guitar, backing vocals), Prescott Niles (bass, backing vocals) and the late Bruce Gary (drums, backing vocals)?
(10 points) 40
5) The had a mildly successful hit in the US with “No Time To Lose,” released in 1979 and re-released in 1981, charting both times. Who are they?
(10 points) 50
6) From 1978 through 1981, they hit the American Top Ten six times. Who are they and what are any five of the songs? (Hint: they are Australian).
(5 points for the band name and 1 point each for the song titles) 60
7) He is best known for his song “Escape” (sub-titled “The Pina Colada Song) but he also holds the distinction of writing the only hit song on the American charts about cannibalism. Who is he, what was the title of his distinctive song and what group sang it?
(4 points for the songwriter, 3 points for the song title, 3 points for the group name) 70
8) Two of the most abysmally made records that I remember in my youth were “Watching Scotty Grow” and “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast.” Who were the artists (and I use that term very loosely) who perpetuated these treasures on us?
(5 points each) 80
9) It was the flip side of “We Can Work It Out” (Beatles’ version).
(10 points) 90
10) This was a novelty hit in 1976, making it to Number # 9 on the Billboard charts. It was the artist’s only hit, it was 3:03 seconds in duration and it was about consumable items. What is the song title and who is the performer?
(5 points each) 100

pjazz,
You did fantastic - not quite perfect but very close.
I thought some of those were hard and obscure (which is what I try to find), but you obviously have a GREAT memory and listened heavily to radio airplay in the 60s and 70s.
Have a GREAT weekend!
Editor,
As we discussed before, I listened to radio when stations played a little bit of everything and a lot more frequently than I do presently. I guessed on number 6 and 10. The band in # 6 was the first to come to mind with the Australia hint and though I would never eat a Disco Duck, I have eaten duck before.
You have a great weekend too.
1. Naughty Naughty by John Parr

6. Little River Band. The songs are: Anniversary, Night Owls, Cool Change, Lady, Reminiscing, and The Other Guy (I think the last song only hit #11, but I can’t come up with anything else)
7. Rupert Holmes. Timothy by The Buoys
8. Bobby Goldsboro and Wayne Newton (nice commentary on these Editor)
9. Nowhere Man?
10. Junk Food Junkie by Larry Groce
As soon as I looked at Pjazzy's answers for some of these (#s 6 and 9 for sure, possibly #2), I knew right away that some of mine were wrong.
Excellent quiz!
malc,
You did pretty good. Like pjazz, you obviously know your 60s and 70s pretty well. I go for the obscure, but not too obscure.
Have a great weekend...
